Blood pressure is way down today

 Earlier this morning I was hoping some things would go my way today:

  • 8:30AM: I receved an email that I have a new message in MyCityof Hope. The message is from Dr. Yamzon asking if 8/04 surgery date works. (YESSSSS!!!!). I fist pump and responded yes.
  • Ran into my wife's office (the bedroom) and let her know. Fist pumps all around.
  • 10:04AM: Call from a 626 number. (Don't let phone spammers know - but I'm answering all calls these days). It's Tony from City of Hope. In one call we schedule and confirm surgery date (8/4), pre-op (7/21), Covid test (8/1). I ask about imaging. We schedule bone scan and 2 CT scans for Monday (6/27).
It's about 6:15PM right now, but I think the feeling of relief is still there. I can breathe.

This is way better than Tuesday when I had to take a day off work and spend most of it on the phone with multiple imaging centers before calling in a favor from my brother-in-law to get someone on the inside at Memorialcare Saddleback to get the bone scan and one CT scan squeezed on on Friday. Never mind the other calls and emails to Monica at Cedars to get the authorizations transferred from Newport Diagnostics (where they couldn't get me on the schedule until 7/5 for a 7/7 surgery). Tuesday has definitely been the peak of my frustration. I know how the system works and it still took me all day to get things scheduled. What about those who don't know how to work the system and to be aggressive to get your way? I feel for them. I really do. 

It took one call to schedule everything. I only need to go to one facility to get it done. Thank you City of Hope.

My Feet are Back on the Ground

(Note: I was drained by the happenings yesterday (Tuesday) that even though I started this entry late Tuesday, I had trouble focusing and finishing. I'm putting the final touches on this Wednesday morning). The toughest part is just not knowing. If I know I can prepare myself. Recovery Goals for Week of 9/4/22

It's been two full weeks since the operation. Time to check in to see how I'm doing versus last week's plan: Re-establish my RX regimen : Done . I'm back to my daily medication regimen. I did have an antibiotic added at my doctor's appointment last Thursday, but that's only for one week. Finish weekly grocery shopping : Done . I took Friday last week to do the weekly grocery shopping. Back on track.  Wash my Car (including vacuum) : Kind of Done . I dropped by the car wash on Friday. Intent was to wash my car and vacuum the interior. The problem? The vacuums were out of order! Keeping this one in the "In Progress" category. Cook a meal : Fail.  Some physical activities are still a bit challenging. In the case of cooking, standing for a period of time is tough because I can't engage my core to support my back. Recovery Goals for the Week of 8/28/22

So week one is behind me and I'm still on the right side of the dirt. Being my first time at this recovery thing, I think it's going okay, but it's kind of like driving without a map. Eventually you get there (most of the time), but you don't always get to see all the sights along the way. I have in my mind what I'd like to accomplish. I need to put the "map" together. There will be two groups of activities on the map: Physical activities: These are the easy ones - getting back to the physical activities that got pushed to the side because of the surgery and recovery, and  Social activities: Over the past few weeks/months, I've put  a lot of activities on the backburner. Most were to avoid getting sick (even a cold would have been bad) prior to surgery.
